
Judith-Annette Milburn,
Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and founder of The Center for Conscious Living
in Fountain Valley, California. She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology
from the University of Maryland in 1971.
From 1970 to 1973 Judith was a research psychologist and coordinator of the
Physiological Fitness Research Project with LA Sheriff's Department, the first
national study to recognize the effects of stress on law enforcement officers.
At California State University at Long Beach, Judith served as an Associate
Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice, specializing in stress management
and the psychological aspects of criminal justice administration. Her appointment
also included serving as a Counselor and Coordinator of Counselors in the
Department of Human Development Services. In 1985, Judith left CSU-Long Beach
to enter her full-time private practice of psychotherapy and founded The Center
for Conscious Living.
Judith’s study of stress and its effects profoundly deepened her understanding
of health and well-being. This understanding, further expanded by continuing
education and personal experiential work with master teachers, enables Judith
to offer a unique spectrum of assistance to her clients.
The integration of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of
life provide a more holistic, a more human approach to their personal health
and wellness.
Judith’s study of stress and its effects profoundly deepened her understanding
of health and well being and convinced her of the necessity of a holistic
approach to psychological counseling. She began seeking and integrating material
that promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. This
understanding, further expanded by continuing education and personal experiential
work with master teachers, enables Judith to offer a unique spectrum of assistance
to her clients.
In addition to furthering her traditional psychological studies, she has also
studied and experienced various eastern philosophies, spiritual traditions,
and approaches to health and well being, including being a student of meditation
and teacher of hatha yoga. She has studied for twenty years with Dr. Brugh
Joy and Dr. Jean Houston as well as many other transpersonally oriented teachers.
She has also traveled in and/or led spiritual pilgrimages to India, Nepal,
Tibet, Egypt, China, Bali, Borneo, Turkey, and Thailand.
